Where did my baby go?

Oliver reached his 8 month birthday the other day and Vic and I are scratching our heads wondering where on earth the last four months have gone and where our baby went!!

He has grown heaps although remains relatively lean for a baby..... probably due to his inability to stay still. No teeth have emerged from his wee gums yet but we have 8 definate "teeth bumps" sitting there just under the surface - we are not really looking forward to when they decide they are all going to pop through!

He has gone from being called Pork Chop, Wee man and Stinky Pants to Spike as he finally has some hair!! Vic takes great pride in applying product to this tuft and spiking it into a mohawk.... even I have to admit that Oliver looks disgustingly cute with his wee mo.

The older he gets the more we are learning about his likes and dislikes - in the toybox for example he will lunge for balls, books and soft toys (which he then flips over to 'read' the lables of!). He also gets very excited when he sees animals - which I am encouraging of course!! Although I have to be careful as he has taken to hitting Gabriel and pulling his whiskers to express his excitement at seeing him. Gabe has developed some great tactics for dealing with this rather rough show of affection - he simply purrs and moves slightly out of reach or head butts and licks Oliver which tends to unbalance him enough to stop him from causing any harm.

I am also rather proud to observe that Oliver gets VERY excited about seeing and riding his rocking horse..... could this be an early sign of the next Mark Todd??? I believe it might be!! Vic on the other hand is shoving rugby balls under his nose in hope that they might invoke the same reaction - but not yet... and we have no rugby balls in the house to encourage that sort of thing!!

Oliver hasn't quite got the hang of crawling yet - we find he opt's for a range of more "sophisticated" moves. He has a mastered a very impressive belly spin, a half back-flip and various other body contortionist acts. The couch is now strictly out of bounds after Oliver attempted a rather tricky somersault off it, which failed dismally and resulted in a face plant instead. We then attended my brothers wedding with a little boy with a skinned nose and a bruised head.......and yes I was watching him but he just moves so damn fast when he wants to!!!

Oliver is rather talkative - he has a range of vowels noises, blowing raspberrys, roaring, growling, sqeaking and squealing used to communicate with us. He also says "Dadadadada" at the most opportune moments - for example on the morning of Vics birthday, often while hugging Vic goodnight and around the time Vic walks in the door from work....... he has said "Mumma" once and he had no idea what he said - but I'll take that all the same!!!

He is eating all sorts of food - and I take great pride in the fact that he seems to prefer my cooking over the baby food jars! Although I can't blame him really - some of those jars taste awful - I wouldn't eat it if I had to so I can hardly expect him to!! He discovered porridge this week and seems to really like it other favourites are my homemade biscotti, steak and kidney stew and potatoes and brocolli mash.

Well that is all from us for now.... hope you are enjoying the pics!!

Luv Susan

I am laughing because pretty soon Mum won't be able to catch me to put my jammies on....and then me and my wee bum can run around the house!!!!

My favourite chew toy yet!!
